Ruger over/under shotgun reviews. Review: Ruger Red Label Shotgun - AllOutdoor.com Not that Ruger does not do a nice job with finish work, but usually finishes are more "field and defense" grade. On the Red Label, the checkering is sharper, the finish has a higher degree of perfection, and the metal-to-metal fit is also very tight and well finished. It is a higher grade of Ruger than we are used to. Over/Unders: Caesar Guerini, Ruger, Browning, & Winchester The Ruger was a substantial gun, with our sample weighing 7.9 pounds. This mass, even with Rugers thinnish rubber buttpad, made the gun softer-shooting than many other over/unders. The Ruger barrel set is heavy, and thats not all bad. It encouraged our shooters to get the gun down in the shoulder pocket where it belongs. Ruger Red Label Overandunder Shotguns - Ruger 2004 The Ruger Red Label over-and-under shotgun features hammer-forged steel barrels, virtually unbreakable firing pins, and a dovetailed, free-floating rib. The locking system, sleek and compact, is considered among the strongest ever built for over-and-under shotguns, and the barrels are back bored for softer recoil and more uniform patterns. 8 of the Most Underrated Over/Under Shotguns of All Time The first generation of this gun was a bit clunky and didn't have the feel of a quality-made over/under, but the Silver Reserve II turned out to be a damn fine field gun for under $900. It comes in several options, including a more basic field model with flush-mounted chokes and shell extractors that don't automatically pop spent shells from the gun, which you will prefer if you are a shotshell re-loader.
